Lee Falls, SC

Lee Falls is located on the Tamassee Creek.  Drive 8.3 miles north on SC 11 from the intersection of SC 28 and SC 11.  Then turn left onto Cheohee Valley Road.  Next go 2.3 miles and make a left on Tamassee Knob Rd and then in 0.5 miles turn right on Jumping Branch Rd.  In 1.5 miles you will turn left onto the gravel road FS 715A after FS 715.  In 0.5 miles pull of  to a small parking area on the right before the small bridge over the creek.  The trail starts on the other side of the gate.  The hike is 1.5 miles to the 75 ft. falls.

My brother and I set out on this hike.  It was a really cool hike as you began walking through fields and then entering the woods.  Later as you reach the creek it is a pretty long rock hop up the creek to the base of the falls.  This is one of my favorite hikes I have done in South Carolina.

The only problem we encountered was missing the trail as it went left towards the beginning of the hike.  We obviously went right and much later ended up hiking straight up a mountain.  By that point we realized we were not on any trail anymore.  We did find a small waterfall on our hike but it wasn't really anything much and I don't even think I still have a pic.  We back tracked to the beginning and tried again but this time ended up wading around in a creek trying to find our way.

After wandering around the woods looking for the right way all afternoon we decided to give up and go home.  I was very disappointed and unhappy about the whole day to this point.  However, not even 5 minutes away from the car we met someone else leaving the trail.  After talking with him, he decided it would be best to just take us to the falls.  He took us all the way up to the creek where the rock hop started and we followed it up to the falls. 

I am very thankful for this guy.  Without him I probably to this day wouldn't have seen Lee Falls.  And Lee Falls is definitely worth seeing.  Getting to the falls made all the mess we went through to find it completely worth it.  If you don't get lost it is a pretty easy hike as long as you are careful  walking on the rocks.  Just make sure you take good directions and don't miss the point where the trail forks left and crosses the creek after entering the woods.
