Dupont State Forest, NC

Dupont State Forest is located near Brevard off Staton Rd.  There are six waterfalls listed here but we only had time to see three.  To see directions, trail maps, and parking info check out the Dupont State Forest website.  We parked at the Hooker Falls access, hiked the falls and then crossed the street to get to High Falls and Triple Falls.

The trails are very simple to follow and range from easy to moderate at best.  The place is well maintained and very popular so expect lots of company.  Out of the three falls we saw and from seeing pictures of the other three I have to say Triple Falls is my favorite.  High Falls is powerful and impressive and Hooker Falls is at least worth seeing once as it is a quick hike.

Dupont is a very nice area that offers many activities such as fishing, horseback riding, biking, swimming, hiking, and hunting.  The area is beautiful and the waterfalls are worth checking out, but it is a little too crowded for me.  If I do make it back I will definitely check out Wintergreen Falls this time and try to get up early to avoid all the people.

Hooker Falls (14 feet)

Here is a video I shot standing beside Hooker Falls at the top:

Triple Falls was really cool because we were able to walk out on the rocks close enough to touch the falls.   There are actually many people sunbathing along the rocks near the top, but the trees hide them in the picture.  We also saw two guys kayaking down the falls which I cant even imagine attempting.  Only how something would go wrong and I would not be writing this now.  I was able to get a short clip of a guy going down one time.

High Falls offered three views.  One from a distance in front of the falls and then a second from a trail that leads down to the base.  The third view is from the covered bridge atop the falls.  I think the best part is going down to the base and walking right up to the falls.  There you really get a feel for how high and powerful it is as you are soaked from the spray.
